FBI Foils Terrorist Plot against New York

The FBI has disrupted a terrorist plot to blow up a portion of New York City's tunnels. Apparently they have been monitoring this particular plot for eight months in chat rooms on the net. There was no imminent danger.

From FoxNews:
"This is one instance where intelligence was on top of its game and discovered the plot when it was just in the talking phase," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said that federal law enforcement and New York police have been monitoring a plot to attack New York's mass transit system for at least eight months.

"There was nothing imminent, but it was being monitored for long period time," said King, who said he has received regular intelligence briefings on the alleged plot as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

King said he had been unable to publicly disclose the plot because to do so would risk the investigation.

"This is ongoing, that's why I've said nothing about it until now," King said. "It would have been better if this had not been disclosed."

Personally, I think Schumer is understating the FBI's efforts to keep us safe. I'm sure that there have been plenty of times that the FBI and Homeland Security have been on their game, not just this one time. The terrorists, after all, only need to get it right once to wreak havoc. I'm thankful that there have been no further attacks on U.S. soil in almost five years. Hopefully our intelligence will continue to get it right every time because it sure isn't a change of terrorists' hearts that have spared us. Implicit in King's statement is the fact that many things are not disclosed because of the damage disclosure could cause to investigations.

Thanks, FBI.
