Facts about Israel

Tammy Bruce has an interesting list of facts about Israel.

Currently, I am perusing The Case for Israel by Alan Dershowitz. So far he has made an excellent case against the double standard consistently applied to Israel versus the rest of the Middle East. He points out that there have always been Jews in Israel and Palestine and that the Jews who began immigrating there in the 1800s and after bought land that was not being used largely from absentee landlords. In other words, few were ever displaced by the nation of Israel. In fact, the Arab nations displaced far more of their own peoples for their various building projects than were displaced by the Jews.

I can't tell you too much more now. I think it's going to be an interesting book. In the interim, check out the Tammy Bruce link for a readable summary of facts.

I saw the same thing on Tammy's pade after I heard her on the Laura Ingraham show. It is a good list and I posted it on my blog along with the list of attacks since 2000 by Hizballah on Israel that were referenced by Michael Medved. I think the stuff going on over there is very interesting and it definitely stuff we as Christians and Americans need to pay attention to.

Yes, that is a huge element that often falls under the radar, but there are some mitigating factors as well. For instance, cultural differences created tension in the region right off the bat, because new Jewish landowners were unaware that while Arab peasants might not own the land, they were considered to have ownership of the trees on the land. Additionally, there was a great deal of illegal Jewish immigration into the region surrounding WWII, no doubt for very good reasons. Still, if it's your land, that might be a tough sell, especially if you're not that involved in European affairs in the first place.
